Up in smoke

Article Abstract:

A recent launch failure could cost China's commercial satellite launch program dearly. China's failure rate exceeds 30%, three times the acceptable rate. The recent failure may price insurance so high that the Chinese cannot compete effectively with Russia, the U.S., or France. In the wake of the failure, three companies with scheduled launches cancelled and went elsewhere. Currently, a shortage of launch rockets make it a seller's market, but by the time China accumulates enough successful launches to establish credibility, the shortage will be over.

The light fantastic

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong businesses are making considerable efforts to show support for the transfer to Chinese sovereignty. Many have gone as far as putting on elaborate light shows in order to show that they are backing the new Chinese rulers. Central Plaza, the tallest building in Hong Kong, has special lighted decorations for the first time, and many light shows feature white dolphins, the official symbol of the handover. However, some companies have taken the opportunity to give prominence to their corporate logo.
