His early writing reflects a vision of town planning oriented towards the identification of a structural framework within the development of the city, which is instrumental in organizing its future growth.

Reflections on the Abercrombie Report 1948: a strategic plan for colonial Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

It is appropriate to consider the ideas and proposals of the 'Hong Kong Planning Report 1948,' generally known as the Abercrombie Report, at a time of political debate about major planning issues in Hong Kong. The most controversial issue is speculative activities and prices for private residential property. The ideas used in the Abercrombie Report gave Hong Kong planners an extensive planning vocabulary. This has in turn influenced their thinking about the form of urban development and the role of planning intervention.

Bringing Abercrombie back from the shades: a look forward and back

Leslie Patrick Abercrombie achieved fame through his writings and his editorship of the Town Planning Review.
