Thyssen Krupp envisage de reprendre Cockerill Sambre

Article Abstract:

Up to now, Cockerill Sambre has not found the ideal partner which would help it make full use of its output capacity and maintain its two operations in the Li ge and Charleroi regions. There have been rumours about contacts with European colleagues, but nothing serious happened. However, it seems that the German group Thyssen Krupp is considering the acquisition of the Belgian steel producer, whose output reached 6.8mn tons of steel in 1997. Today, the Walloon region is the majority shareholder of Cockerill Sambre.
