VSNL JOINS PRICE WAR, CUTS TARIFF BY 30%

Article Abstract:

The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) plans to cut down its Internet tariff rates by 30 percent with effect from March 1, 1998. The rates have been revised to counter the competition from the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL). The new tariff rates will be available to those customers who renew their accounts. VSNL will also offer a discount of 20 percent for subscribers renewing their account for the first time. It will now be charging Rs3,500 for 100 hours and Rs10,000 for 500 hours compared to MTNL's rate of Rs2,550 for 100 hours and Rs8,500 for 500 hours. VSNL hopes to retain its subscriber base of 200,000 through the new tariff structure. (ag)(m)

IDBI PEGS ASSET GROWTH TARGET AT 20% FOR FISCAL

Article Abstract:

The Industrial Development Bank of India has projected an asset growth rate of 18-20 percent for 1998-99 and sanction and disbursal of new loans at 20-25 percent. It has also decided to fulfill its commitments related to advances to the industrial sector. It has revised its target for sanctions and disbursals by about 40 percent to Rs1400 crore and Rs950 crore respectively for 1998-99. (khr)
