Vancouver vies for West Coast crown

Article Abstract:

Vancouver International Airport edged out San Francisco International Airport in the volume of international traffic handled in 1999. Vancouver now ranks second to Los Angeles International Airport and controls 23% of international traffic in the West Coast. The airport is marketing itself as the prime gateway to Asia since it has the fastest flight time to any Asian city, such as Tokyo or Hong Kong. Nine more new gates are being built at the airport, which would bring the total number of gates to 23 when completed by 2003.
