Vanguard senior chairman Bogle refuses offer to remain on board

Article Abstract:

Founder John C. Bogle will leave the board of the Vanguard Group on December 31, 1999, bringing to an end a public dispute between himself and company directors. The board waived a rule on mandatory retirement so that Bogle, who turned down an offer to stay on the board, could leave the firm he founded 25 years ago.

Agilent unveils broad restructuring

Agilent Technologies Inc. of the United States is restructuring and refocusing on the manufacture of high-tech test equipment and test equipment. The company is also planning the sale of its microchip unit and the sale of a stake in its lighting company which could bring more than $3.6 billion.

Palm Treo to use RIM's software as rivals team

Palm Inc. of the United States has entered a joint venture with Research in Motion Ltd. of Canada to produce Palm's Treo 650 smartphone with wireless email software from the Canadian software company. The new mobile phone technology is to be launched in 2006.
