Veolia stays open to acquisitions; net jumps 59%

Veolia Environnement S.A. of France posted soaring 2005 net profit, up 59 percent to 623 million Euros ($742.3 million) from 391.5 million Euros in 2004. Revenue for the water utilities company rose 12 percent to 25.24 billion Euros.

AXA to sell reinsurance unit

AXA Re of France the subsidiary of AXA S.A., is to be bought by a consortium including Stone Point Capital L.L.C. of the United States. Paris Re Holdings is paying 120 million Euros ($155 million) above Axa Re's net value.
