Article Abstract:

It has been predicted the UK market for video games will be worth 673 million pounds sterling in 1998. The introduction of online game playing via the Internet will have an impact on the video and computer games sales. A number of CD-ROM games include a device to allow multi-playing over the Internet. Video games software has the largest share of UK market at 35% followed by computer games software and video games consoles at around 30% each. Sales of video games for the Sony Playstation are predicted to account for 52% of the market, worth some 117 million pounds sterling for 1998.

Article Abstract:

The rapidly expanding personal computer market and enhancements in computer technology are expected to revive flagging sales in video and computer games, which have fallen by one third since 1993. Over a quarter of all computer games are now sold on compact disks rather than video or diskette. The computer games market is dominated by Virgin Interactive Entertainment (Europe) Ltd., which occupy nearly 13% of volume sales in the United Kingdom.
