RWE offers 4.97 billion euros for American Water Works

Gold Fields to buy 70% stake in Iamgold in $2.1 billion deal

Iamgold Corp. is urging shareholders, who have already voted down a merger with the gold company's Canadian rival, Wheaton River Minerals Ltd., to likewise vote down an offer from Golden Star Resources Ltd., and instead approve a merger with the South African company Gold Fields Ltd. The latter merger would turn Iamgold into one of the top 10 producers of gold worldwide.

Vivendi is said to be close to buying U.S. Filter in deal valued at $6 billion

Vivendi SA is near an agreement under which it will purchase United States Filter Corp. US Filter Corp. is the largest water company in the US. The agreement is valued at approximately $6 billion. The exact details of the deal were not revealed. Vivendi is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in France. However, the company has never had a significant position in the US.
