Wal-Mart to buy grocer-retail chain in China: deal would bolster position in crucial overseas market after missteps elsewhere

Article Abstract:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is acquiring Trust-Mart's general merchandise hypermarket stores in China for approximately $1 billion. This acquisition would strengthen Wal-Mart's hypermarket position in China. Wal-Mart currently has 66 stores in China, with 61 hypermarkets , and plans to add 18-20 more this year.

Wal-Mart's radio-tracked inventory hits static

Article Abstract:

The RFID technology introduced by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to increase efficiency have not yet resulted in savings for the company, and have proven costly for the company's distributors. Wal-Mart still plans to add the technology to more stores and distribution centers.

Retailers still might make up for Holiday Season's slow start

Article Abstract:

Retail sales in November have been mixed although retailers are optimistic for the Christmas season. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of the United States posted a monthly decrease in sales for November at the lowest in 14 years.
