Who speaks for Main Street?

Article Abstract:

Business contributed record sums to US political causes, yet is under pressure, especially the tobacco industry. This is a contrast to the mid 1990s when the government's planned health care reforms were rejected and business helped the government to achieve trade agreements. Businesses are not always united, and their interests may differ. Larger firms, for example, find bureaucracy less of a problem than do smaller firms. Some companies employ lobbyists full time, and they include Dell, part of the technology lobby, which is increasing in importance.
