Article Abstract:

Trinecke zelezarny (TZ) (Trinec, Czech Republic), metallurgy firm, expects its exports to increase in 2000 due to the entrance of Commercial Metals Company (CMC) (US). CMC bought an 11% stake in TZ from Moravia Steel (MS) (Czech Republic), which is TZ's majority shreholder. MS's stake in TZ decreased from 74% to 63%. The purchase was realised and the controll of the stake will be ensured by CMC's European branch Commercial Metals Internationl (CMI) (Switzerland). TZ expects a profit of about 200 mil Kc and proceeds of roughly 20 bil Kc in 2000. The company saw a preliminary gross profit of about 100 mil Kc under total proceeds of roughly 17.5 bil Kc in 1999. In 1998 the company saw a net profit of 209.5 mil Kc and a pre-tax profit of over 321.5 mil Kc. The firm's total proceeds amounted to 19.38 bil Kc in 1998.

Article Abstract:

Newcomers may experience some difficulty adjusting to the Japanese way of life, particularly in Tokyo, Japan. Many are surprised to discover that most Japanese always bring their business cards with them and that they use different cards for almost every activity and transaction. Commuting may prove to be particularly problematic, considering the confusing manner by which addresses are determined and street numbers are arranged.

Don't help Burma's generals

Article Abstract:

The Burmese military junta is expected to release jailed opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi from prison but analysts say this is more to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the world, which wants to see some sort of democracy in the country. The military is rushing to implement its seven-point agenda towards so called democracy but nations around the world must see through the games and ensure strict compliance.
