World Bank views East Asia's recovery as fragile

Article Abstract:

The improving condition of East Asian economies during the second half of 1999 is not a guarantee of long-term stability, according to World Bank analysts. During the bank's joint annual meeting with the International Monetary Union, it was stressed that deflation and minimal investment flow still pose serious threats to East Asian countries. Despite this looming uncertainty, experts assert that the strength of East Asian stock markets would prevail for a considerable period of time.
