Article Abstract:

US motion pictures performed well in 1998, and the market share of German, French and British movies dropped. Ticket sales have still risen in Europe with the rise of multiplex motion picture theaters, though such theaters tend to show more movies from the US. Blockbusters have become popular again and the budgets used for blockbusters are larger than can be afforded in Europe. Successful blockbusters can attract very large audiences. There are also fewer independent distributors in Europe.

Selling yourself

Article Abstract:

Thomas Haffa, EM TV chief executive, previously worked at IBM. EM TV was ws of the initial companies listing on the German Neuer Markt and has been successful, with the stock price rise helping to fund acquisitions. EM TV has scarcity value, and there are few listed media firms in Germany. This could change, and the Neuer Markt could be affected by a correction. The employees who have bought stocks in the company have been well rewarded, and Haffa has made a mark with EM TV.

Mature at 21

Article Abstract:

The Sundance motion picture festival at Park City began in 1978 and has become a major event for new movies and talent in the motion picture industry of North America. Sundance was initially a way for independent movies to gain publicity and has since attracted distributors due to the large number of journalists at the festival. There could be an increase in the number of submissions to Sundance in 2000 to over 1,000, up from an annual level of some 900.
