Article Abstract:

Scorecard offers scientific data on pollution, and allows users to discover which companies are polluting near them, as well as what their governor has done to tackle the problem of pollution. Friends of the Earth offers a similar site in Britain, and a Canadian site is also planned. Protesters can send letters to companies and governors registering their views. There is a danger that companies will send stock replies back to protesters, and their own e-mails to politicians. Letters to congressmen were once taken seriously, but have become so common that this is not longer the case, and the same could happen with e-mails.
