Acquisitions more than double size of Alderfer

Article Abstract:

Sherry S. Russell, the president of the Lewis M. Alderfer a meat company has purchased Knauss Dried Beef Co. of Quakertown and is purchasing Schafer Bologna Co. of Easton, Philadelphia to expand the business. The additions of Knauss Dried Beef and Sehafer Bologna would double Alderfer's payroll to 140 and its annual sales to $04 million.

Bankrupt Weirton Steel accepts $255 million bid

Article Abstract:

Bankrupt steelmaker Weirton Steel Corp. accepted a US $255 million buyout offer in February 2004 from Ohio's International Steel Group Inc. that included cash and the assumption of Weirton's liabilities. Weirton Steel's financial difficulties and its inability to strike a deal with its Independent Steelworkers Union are discussed.
