Airline policy gains support

Article Abstract:

Efforts by the US Transportation Department to increase competition in the airline industry achieved the support of several groups including those representing state attorneys general. Other supporters of the predatory-competition initiative, which is an effort to reregulate the airline industry, are business travelers, travel agents and Allentown's Lehigh Valley Airport. However, the planned Transportation Department policy aiming to help small, start-up airlines conquer new markets, is being subbed by major airlines.

Fledgling airline finally making profitable flights

Article Abstract:

Greensboro-based Eastwind Airlines started up in mid-1995 but is still suffering growing pains. It still has only 5 planes, and it has had a problem with overbooking and late flights. It is still getting used to its new reservations software. Tuesday, 5/4/99, may have been its first profitable flight, from the Trenton-Mercer County Airport. That profit may have been as little as $3.00, but at least it's a profit. Now perhaps the new leather seats can be scheduled.
