Biotech settles with fired CEO for $4 million

San Diego, Calif.-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals, which is a biotechnology company, has announced a settlement with its former chief executive David Katz. The agreement, which is valued at about $4 million in stock and cash, settles Katz's claim that Avanir damaged his reputation with defamatory statements.

American Home acts to end suits and save merger

American Home Products Corp., which is anxious to preserve its proposed merger with Warner-Lambert Co., decided to settle lawsuits related to its diet drug fen-phen. The settlements cover 1,400 lawsuits in Mississippi.
