CSX, Norfolk Southern smoothly split up Conrail; freight customers appeared to be satisfied as the two companies ended the Northeast freight-rail monopoly

Article Abstract:

CSX and Norfolk Southern Corp reworked their computer systems on May 31, 1999 to reflect the acquisition of Consolidated Rail Corp (Philadelphia, PA). Freight-rail customers have not complained about any problems resulting from the dismemberment of the 11,000-mile Conrail network, which was purchased by CSX and NSC for $10.3 billion. Norfolk Southern said it had a minor computer problem that was still being addressed on Jun 1, 1999, but that did not interfere with freight operations.

The store has been preparing to go public by already raising $35 million in venture financing, more than any local firm during the first quarter, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers' survey.
