Central bank signals interest rates to rise in months ahead: Bank of Canada notches up its inflation forecast

Article Abstract:

The Bank of Canada nudged up its forecast for inflation in 2006 but downgraded its expectation for growth as it signaled that interest rates would need to rise in the months ahead to stem rising prices. The main factors affecting the interest rate outlook include how much unused capacity there is in the economy, future growth of Canadian imports and exports, and the price of oil and non-energy commodities.

OPEC poised to hike to cut prices

Article Abstract:

The Organization of Petroleum-Exporting Countries (OPEC) plans to raise output to increase price gains after the attack by the militants that killed over 22 people in Saudi Arabia. The United States and other oil importers have detained OPEC to pump more crude to lower prices and reduce the threat that rising energy costs might restrain economic growth.
