Deluge of drug ads has FDA struggling to stop the hype

Article Abstract:

The Federal governments efforts to control misleading advertisements for prescription drugs in newspapers and magazines have not kept pace with the growth in drugs advertising. The Food and Drug Administration, which is supposed to protect people from advertisements, which exaggerate the drug benefits, is hobbled by obsolete standards, inadequate staffing and a growing reluctance to get tough with such drug companies.

Drug firm sells 2 lines to rivals

Article Abstract:

The article is about SmithKline Beecham P.L.C. which said it would sell two product lines to Swiss firms for a combined sum of $2.9 billion. The expected divestitures are necessary to gain approval for SmithKline's proposed $75 billion merger with Glaxo Welcome P.L.C. The Swiss firms are Roche AG and Novartis AG.
