For West Chester biotech firm, market has been far from sleepy

Cephalon Inc.'s Provigil has FDA approval to treat narcolepsy and the company is getting reports from studies so it will be allowed for use for sleep apnea, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's dxs. More tests are needed for those. Additional clinical trials are planned for treating fatigue from MS and cancer.

SmithKline to test a wound-healing drug

Article Abstract:

SmithKline Beecham P.L.C. is working with Human Genome Sciences to develop and commercialize repifermin, a protein that shows potential in promoting wound-healing. Although details of the partnership have not been made final, the companies will probably split the expenses of further testing and share revenue.

Inusurers move toward online transactions

MedUnite Inc., a San Diego-based health insurers' firm for a consortium of seven companies, has made a deal with NDCHealth that would give MedLife access to 70,000 doctors' offices and to Medicaire, Medicaid, Blue Cross, and Blue Shield organizations throughout the U.S. Two of the companies making up the consortium are Philadelphia's Cigna Corp. and Aetna Inc.
