Richard Baker has been a congressional representative of Louisiana's 6th district since 1987. The upcoming 2008 elections is to challenge Baker's post in the U.S. House looking into the post-Hurricane Katrina's home buyout program and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee hunting a promising candidate to finally beat Baker.

Kip Holden is Baton Rouge's first African American mayor and his election in 2004 saw an impressive number of votes coming from white voters. Details on Holden's mayorship and his primary objective of accumulating crossover votes in both the previous and upcoming elections are discussed.
