Just what's the big idea behind CN8's expansion?

Article Abstract:

CN8, the regional TV channel carried only on Comcast Corp. cable systems makes a huge growth spurt in May 2003, going live on cable systems that serve 2.2 million homes from Maine to Connecticut, many of which Comcast absorbed in its acquisition of AT&T Broadband. Breaking out beyond the Mid-Atlantic region for the first time, CN8's mix of public affairs and local sports would extend to a total of 6.2 million homes.

Comcast became the biggest provider of television service to Americans in 2002, when it acquired AT&T Corp.'s cable-TV systems and more than doubled in size to serve 21 million households. Comcast has become the most influential customer of dozens of companies, giving it massive clout in everything from lowering the rates it pays to shaping the direction of America's mass media.
