Kulicke & Soffe reports losses

Article Abstract:

Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc. (Willow Grove, PA) posted a net loss for the fiscal year. This semiconductor-assembly equipment manufacturer, however, is optimistic that demand in chips will rebound, and with it demand for their machinery. In the mean time, the company has begun reducing staff, restructuring, and cutting inventory. As part of this effort, the company has laid off 250 of its world wide staff of 1,900. Severance pay and elimination of some product lines totaled $8.4m, which helped put the company in the red. The company will continue to concentrate on core products.
