Mothers Work to doff last Episodes

Article Abstract:

Mothers Work Inc. has decided to divest 24 of its last 30 Episode locations to Wet Seal Inc. of Foothill Ranch, CA, for $2.8 million and discontinue operating the rest. The retail company, which initially closed 21 of its then 51 losing Episode outlets in May 1998, began operating the outlets in June 1996 in an effort to expand its product offering into non-maternity women apparel. Mothers Work, which operates 583 maternity clothing outlets under such brand names as Mimi Maternity and A Pea in the Pod Inc., said that Wet Seal will absorb all of its employees at the Episodes stores sold.
