N.J. legislature approves abortion-notification bill

Article Abstract:

New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman must decide whether to sign a new parent-notification abortion bill which was passed recently by the New Jersey Senate and Assembly. The bill requires that parents of pregnant minors be notified when their daughters seek an abortion from medical clinics. New Jersey, which is one of a few remaining states without a parental consent law, could impose fines and civil penalties under the new law. The law will face a challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union if signed by the governor.
