Putnam aims to get back into ballpark

Article Abstract:

The state of Massachusetts announced that it was seeking a new manager for a $1.3 billion fixed-income fund which had been managed by Putnam Investments for over a decade. The company will be kept on as the manager of two other equity portfolios. Putnam, once known primarily for its bond department, was replaced as Massachusetts' bond manager and retained as its equity manager as it is now considered to be a bond manager that is falling behind the pace. In addition, restructuring has transformed the company's $71 billion fixed-income department.

Life on the side of the road; shrimp vendors scratch out a living one day at a time

Article Abstract:

Shrimp vendors in Louisiana compete fiercely and are relecutant to discuss their business with outsiders. They offer shrimp a dollar off the usual retail price. According to retailers, vendors do not pay taxes and often sell spoiled shrimp.
