Southwest's workers protest here

Article Abstract:

Southwest Airlines unionized flight attendants started a campaign for a new labor contract to Philadelphia where the discount carrier plans to start service. The flight attendants, members of the Transport Workers Union contend that Southwest after building a reputation over three decades for good relations with its mostly unionized workforce has not offered flight attendants a raise comparable to what it has given other labor groups.

Company intranets can help get employees on the road

Article Abstract:

The larger corporations are making the best use of company intranets to help the thousands of employees who do much of the business traveling for these corporations. The company travel site can include airline website links, the hotels where the company has special rates, and lots of other useful information. IBM is one example of the large companies that is finding efficiencies that translate to more cost-saving this way.

Another year older, and poorer, US airways still fights for life

Article Abstract:

US Airways Group Inc. is finding itself struggling to meet the challenges of an industry as for the third December in a row the company faces second retreat into Chapter 11 in 2004. Analyst in a report cited the progress US Airways has made in forging new cost-cutting contracts with its unions and a new aircraft-financing deal with General Electric Co.'s GE Capital Unit.
