Jones confirms plans to buy Nine West

Article Abstract:

Bucks County, Bristol, PA-based apparel giant Jones Apparel Group's share prices dropped when the company recently announced its acquisition of Nine West. Analysts feel that the $1.4 billion deal will propel Jones too far afield from its core business which is womens' apparel. Jones markets casual and career clothes such as Ralph Lauren, Evan Picone, Rena Rowen and Jones New York. Timothy Ghriskey, portfolio manager at Dreyfus Corp. said that he felt that Jones would have gained just as much from a licensing agreement.
