Gen. Instrument officially merges with Motorola

Article Abstract:

Horsham, Penn.-based General Instrument Corp. will be acquired by Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola Inc. for $17 billion. General Instrument, which makes set-top control boxes for cable television, has announced that its chief executive will serve as the president of a new Motorola division following the merger.

SMG buys a rival manager

Leisure Management International Corp. has been acquired for undisclosed terms by rival Philadelphia, Penn.-based SMG Facility Management Worldwide from a group led by Florida billionaire H. Wayne Huizenga. The merger will create the largest public-arena management firm in the world.
