A comparative study of three different kinds of school furniture

Article Abstract:

ISO-standard type and 2 different new types of school furniture having forward slanting seats and tiltable desk tops with nearly 15 cms excess height were compared to show that the highest of the two tilting type furniture was markedly better than the other 2 types. The table and chair height, reading position, back rests and global assessment gives this type an advantage over the other types of furniture. This meant that the ISO standards for school furniture were not helpful as they did not call for furniture with inclinable seats and desk-tops which can be adjusted to a non-horizontal position.

Cardiac frequency throughout a working shift in coal miners

Article Abstract:

A study to determine the physical effort required in coal mining work using 73 Asturian miners as subjects showed that the physical demand of the job is nearly the same for older and younger people. The average working shift cardiac frequency, used to represent physical demand, was not age related. Subjects with higher working capacity showed lower cardiac frequency during work, but the correlation is not strong enough to use in predicting individual behavior.
