A hardware primer: how much computer do you really need?

Article Abstract:

A general guide for simplified computer shopping in the 1990s is presented, confined to the IBM and IBM-compatible PC and accessories. Power, speed, and memory are explained, especially with respect to Lotus 1-2-3 and Windows applications, and the 486 is recommended as a sound investment. Benefits of notebook computers are outlined, and printer costs are summarized. Potential price declines are not considered a factor in shopping for suitable equipment.
