The provinces beckon

Article Abstract:

Indonesia remains an attractive region for development, but most development still remains in the area's most popular island, Java. Other attempts to develop other islands among Indonesia's 17,000 islands have failed. One such attempt was made on the island of Batam in the 1970s. On Java infrastructure is still poorly developed and labor is still scarce, which discourages investors.
