A new light on Formica

Article Abstract:

The Formica Corp has sponsored an exhibition called 'Found Futures' that features projects by eight Chicago-based architects who were asked to transform used objects into products or installations using Formica material. The exhibition opens in Mar 1993 at the WestWeek in Los Angeles, CA. The objects on display range from a sports coat covered with laminate sample chips to a almp and shade made from a slide projector, an antique camera tripod, key rings and Formica laminates. More projects will be added while the exhibition is on tour.

Article Abstract:

'Concepts and Students' exhibition involves the analysis of various original designs of different products which ranges from computers to table lamps and health care kits. The exhibition's jurors were design educators Constantin Boym, Ayse Birsel and Ezio Manzini. 'Domestic Chips' was cited as the best entry for the Concepts category while 'Planet Disney Promotional T-shirts' received the 'best of category' award for the 'Students' level of the exhibition.

Interactive media design review 2003

Article Abstract:

Results of the Interactive Media Design Review 2003 conveyed the mixed reactions of the jurors to the entries. Some of the sites reviewed were textile company Maharam and the graphic design firm Hahn Smith, praised for simplicity and cleanness, and content-rich sites such as Yin Yu Tang for the Peabody Essex Museum.
