A social security reform proposal

Article Abstract:

A proposal for Social Security modernization in the US was presented which suggests the integration of existing financial products and the private industry infrastructure that have emerged since 1935, in which there are three notable social and economic features, into Social Security. The objective of this proposal is to lighten the burden placed on employees through the lessening of the required rate of employers' contribution.

Article Abstract:

Canada's Accounting Standards Board has developed an exposure draft for accounting post-employment benefits other than pensions. The draft includes provisions on the estimation of future benefits using the accrued benefit method of actuarial valuation, determination of the rate to which future benefits are discounted to the present date, and the separate treatment of settlements and curtailments.

The price of promises: a new PSAB project will provide information about all types of employee future benefits to help determine the state of a government's finances

Canadia's Public Sector Accounting Board has developed a scheme to supply governments with the mechanics required to set up liabilities for future benefits. The stages of the scheme include employee pension obligations, retirement benefits other than pensions and compensated absences.
