Action plan for the Year 2000 problem

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants has released its Guidance for Directors - The Millenium Bug paper to act as a guideline for business organizations in preparing for the Year 2000 problem in computer system. The directive consists of the necessary planning and activities which will address the problem including the establishment of a project team which will deal specifically with the problem, an inventory of potentially exposed systems and procedures, and contigency planning for each Y2K activity. A survey of Canadian companies showed only half acting immediately regarding the problem, despite 90% being aware of the problem.

Success from depression: a CA wins his fight to overcome career setbacks

Article Abstract:

Accountant Robert Sealey, whose depressive illness prevented him from working with a good firm, offers "mental accounting" services. The services consist in giving financial management advices to depressed clients. The advice is intended to assist clients in their financial decision-making while they suffer from the illness. His bipolar mood disorders, which caused him to have bad relationship with clients and colleagues, has hindered him to build a career in accounting firms such as Price Waterhouse.

A new culture for accountability

Article Abstract:

Government leaders are pushing for new accountability regimes that provide relevant performance information to decision-making bodies. These new regimes are expected to improve public sector management and administration. An Ontario government report proposes a structure that integrates the four ministerial functions of the public sector while British Columbia has come up with a results-oriented framework that seeks to improve performance information.
