Add-ons bring Lotus 1-2-3 up to treasury demands

Article Abstract:

The Lotus 1-2-3 computer spreadsheet program is the consistent choice of corporate treasurers and their staffs because: so many have already invested time and resources in mastering it; it has become popular even among computer-illiterate executives; treasurers are slowly winning the struggle of getting data into a spreadsheet of one type or another. Lotus Development Corp has prepared a 'tool kit' to help improve 1-2-3 flexibility and give it an 'open architecture'. The tool kits consists of software tools useful for linking third-party developers' software directly with the Lotus 1-2-3. The linking is accomplished via the Add-On Manager. Most Lotus 1-2-3 add-ons cost under $100, and many sell within the $60 to $80 range. Also described is Intex Solutions' JetSet, a Lotus 1-2-3 add-on that permits full control of a Hewlett-Packard laser printer via Lotus 1-2-3 commands.

Treasurers put their banks under a spreadsheet microscope

Article Abstract:

Corporate treasury managers are turning to spreadsheet software programs to analyze the soundness of the corporation's bank. Three frequently used types of bank analysis are stock analysis, debt analysis, and deposit risk analysis. The data required to perform these analyses can be purchased from the FDIC and formatted for use on a microcomputer. The advantage to using this method, as opposed to relying on bank call reports or a bank rating service, is that the information gathered from an in-house spreadsheet will usually be more comprehensive and up to date.

Four programs make hard-disk systems work better

Article Abstract:

Hard disk drives are widely used as storage devices in computerized treasury management systems. Programs that can help maintain a hard drive system are discussed. These programs are classified by function: file recovery, data compression, back-up systems, and delivery systems. These programs make disk drives operate more efficiently, and help to prevent files from being lost due to accidental erasure or failure to create back-up files.
