Aerial tanker deal frozen until May 1

Article Abstract:

The Department of Defense (DoD) has stated that the contract with Boeing to supply airborne refueling tankers, the KC-767s to the Air Force will remain on hold until May 1 in order to complete the four ongoing investigations ordered by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld for impropriety charges and to investigate the issue of Pentagon personnel moving directly from defense jobs to positions within the defense industry. However, the DoD is not at liberty to turn to another contractor as an alternative as it would have to go through the entire procurement process within Congress and would rather look into the possibility of re-engineering the aging KC-135s or a replacement with some other modified aircraft.

McCain: Druyun not alone at Air Force

Article Abstract:

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz) has challenged the Pentagon's acquisition practices by questioning whether the recent Air Force tanker aircraft scandal was all due to Darleen Druyun's fault. He believes that Darleen Druyun must have had some knowledge of other Air Force acquisition officials in the case of would-be Boeing Co.'s KC-767A tanker aircraft.
