Allocating the tobacco money

Article Abstract:

Local officials in Mississippi created valuable use of the revenue generated from tobacco operations by transforming it into a state fund for improving the health status of local citizens. Dubbed as the Health Care Trust Fund, the budget consists of domestic equities, covered call and put options, international stocks and commingled funds. Part of the fund would be used for the Children's Health Insurance, an initiative that seeks to render health assistance to uninsured children, veterans, trauma centers and other related institutions.

Capital Corporation

Article Abstract:

Capital Corporation is a UK casino operator and the company suffered a drop in profit of 40% in 1994 followed by a rise in profit for 1st half 1995. The company is relaunching its mid-range casino during 1996, and this should ease some of the volatility from the company's involvement in top-range casinos. The UK lottery has affected more down-market forms of gaming, so Capital Corporation's focus on the premium end of the market should help offset the impact of the lottery.
