An examination of the long run performance of UK acquiring firms

Article Abstract:

A study of UK business firms takeovers between 1984 and 1992 was conducted to show the average return of the acquiring companies. The models used to examine the performance of acquiring firms after a two-year post-acquisition period were the series of models of abnormal returns, simple cross-sectional model of returns and the 'Returns Across Time Series' model. Data showed that the returns of UK business firms after the said period were clearly and notably negative in the long run. Moreso, different acquiring firms involved in bidding show worse performance in their rate of returns.

Ethical unit trust financial performance: small company effects and fund size effects

Article Abstract:

An examination of UK ethical unit trusts show that they have greater exposure to small firm risks than general unit trusts. Both indicate a tendency to underperform when exposed to small firms but ethical unit trusts are more negatively affected by small firm effects than non-ethical unit trusts. Despite the fact that ethical and general unit trusts are exposed to small firms effect, it cannot be concluded that fund size has a correlation with the performance of unit trusts.
