An undeserved reputation as a dining club?

Article Abstract:

District societies of chartered accountants need to review their relevance to practitioners, particularly as these societies are coming to be viewed as nothing more than dining clubs. While there are those who see the district societies as vital links between the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and its individual members, there are those who are questioning the necessity of having these societies when there are boards, faculties and other agencies that cater to the need of practitioners. It is especially important for the societies to justify their existence given the limited funding that the Institute can grant them. District societies need to review their performance in linking practitioners with the Institute and in giving their members opportunities for interaction.

Shocks that will reshape our economy

Article Abstract:

Those involved in long-term investment planning must have an in-depth understanding of the background factors determining inflation. However, this can present considerable challenges. It remains uncertain whether deflationary forces create low inflation, and it is difficult to distinguish between low inflation caused by low demand and low inflation caused by increased supply. When considering recent economic trends, it seems reasonable to conclude that there has been a shift in the supply side of the world economy which may eventually prove very significant.
