Are we stuck in the standards?

Article Abstract:

High expectations prevail about data reporting standards that allow preserving and exploiting costly high-throughput biomedical data, butt researchers are suspicious about the ability of a static standard to keep pace with the rapidly changing world of biological experimentation and resentful of the difficulties using data-reporting standards. Experiences of two of the current biomedical standards, the Gene Ontology and the Microarray Gene Expression Data Society projects present lessons in trying to achieve balance between moving quickly to accommodate immediate needs and moving methodically to address the critiques of others.
