Auspicious antigens

Article Abstract:

Several new 'cancer-testis' (CT) antigens, which represent promising candidates for vaccines to augment the immune response against cancer, are identified. CT genes (CT45) belongs to a cluster of six identical or near-identical genes, which have probably arisen through gene duplication and this distinctive X-linked CT-antigen gene family represents a set of important candidates for anticancer vaccines.

Immunosuppressive networks in the tumor environment and their therapeutic relevance

Article Abstract:

Many tumors are potentially immunogenic, as corroborated by the presence of tumor-specific immune responses in vivo. It is shown how tumor immune tolerance predominates and outweighs the effective immune response in patients with cancer, and how one might be able to subvert tumor tolerance to achieve a successful tumor immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy dispenses with tumor antigens

Article Abstract:

The induction of CD8+ T-cell-mediated immunity against antigens released from normal melanocytes is exploited to destroy metastatic melanomas. The patients can be immunized with malignant diseases with their own tumors without having to define their tumor antigen phenotype and without having to isolate tumor cells or tumor antigens.
