Avon CC: bridging the information gap for community care

Article Abstract:

A software program was created by the Avon County Council (CC) treasury department to help implement community financial services. Avon CC's efforts at developing the usage of groupware networking programs for community-related projects has made it a top contender in a competition launched by the City University Business School. Groupware networking has been found by Avon CC to have far-reaching effects on information systems management.

Partnership pays for Cheshire's IT department

Article Abstract:

England's Cheshire County Council's information technology (IT) department is an example of how IT departments maintain a close working relationship between individual clients and the council as a whole. Council IT departments are constantly studying problems demanding much attention. IT departments must establish a partnership with their clients and the corporate organization if they are to continue servicing the county council.

1992 and all that: beware the red tape of the Eurocrats

Article Abstract:

Information technology (IT) managers are facing new directives issued by the EC that cover contract signing involving computer systems. New directives on screen-based equipment will likewise be enforced by the end of 1992. Aside from visual display specifications, the new rules will also cover personnel management and the environment where the work station is situated.
