Bank privatization in developing countries: a summary of lessons and findings

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the effectiveness of privatization of banking sector in developing countries is presented. It is observed that privatization improves the banks efficiency if government relinquishes its control completely and does not restrict competition. Improvement is also noticed when banks are privatized to strategic investors, and when foreign banks participate in the bank.

Bank privatization and performance: empirical evidence from Nigeria

Article Abstract:

A study analyzing the impact of privatization of banks in Nigeria is presented. The study relates to the period from 1990 to 2001. It is noted that there was considerable performance improvement of the privatized banks. Adverse effects of minority government ownership in banking industry are also examined.
