Bicycle messengers: Energy expenditure and exposure to air pollution

Article Abstract:

A study seeks to determine the level of energy expenditure and exposure to air pollution for bicycle messengers in Stockholm during a typical working day. Results show that the level of air pollution exposure when cycling is comparable with the levels of exposure when sitting inside a vehicle, and that increased pulmonary ventilation (VR) leads to increased uptake of air pollution.
