Billiton

Article Abstract:

Billiton is a mining company and low-cost producer which has a cash-rich balance sheet. The company was sold to Gencor in 1994 and was listed in Jul 1997. Billiton faces difficult trading, but metals prices should recover from their fall in late 1997. The company has operations in South Africa which is seen as less risky than many countries in Asia and Latin America. The company aims to grow and diversify in geographical terms and this should reduce its risk levels.
