Blueprint of an oil-eating bacterium

Article Abstract:

The first genome sequence of a marine hydrocarbonoclastic bacterium, Alcanivorax borkumensis SK2 that devours oil components in the ocean and develops improved bioremediation strategies is described. It is felt that most of the regulatory processes of A. borkumensis SK2 are related to global balancing of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in the context of enduring environmental stresses than to a response to specific tiny signal molecules.
