Borland, Microsoft touch off software marketing wars

Article Abstract:

Borland International is selling its Paradox for Windows database program at a promotional price of $139 compared to its retail price of $795 during its 90-days marketing campaign. The low price is intended to encourage non-users to try their new products. The price reduction is supported by a series of ads in publications which specialize in the computer industry. The theme of the Paradox ads are the idea of magic database power made easy, Borland's experience in databases and the price promotion.

Software evolves as 'thinking' tool

Article Abstract:

Many software companies are developing genetic algorithm-based (GA) software which interact with other systems and adapt to meet changing systems requirements. The applications for such software continue to grow as more companies become aware of its capabilities. The most dramatic growth in GA software has been seen in the financial services and the telecommunications industries. To market such products, marketers should focus on their specific applications to various industries.
